Yesterday, I was at a prayer Catholic Witness vigil for moral clarity and courageous solidarity. During the powerful vigil, we focused on immigrants, the poor and hungry, victims of war and violence, and the environment.
We shared stories. One concerned a refugee mother and her US born child. The mother passed her citizenhp exam and her citizenship on December 12th, 2025. She received a notice the naturalization ceremony would not take place. Nothing has happened since. Decemeber 12th is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:34
On that day. I was serving as minister of peace and safety at a local parish with others. We were protecting our Hispanic brothers and sister as they celebrated morning prayer. For over two hours, we stood vigil stregnthed by our faith; equipped with yellow vests, walkie talkies, and whistles.
Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor, Obtain justice for the orphan, Plead for the widow’s case. Isaiah 1:17
Public Servants
Time for our US representatives and senators to act in the interest of all. No more empty words and photo ops. Be servants of all and the good of all.
Practice Politics as service for the common good of all. Our families, community, nation and world on this and other issues.
Stop the “politics” of sound bites, only win the next election and then we can act, narrowly defining the “people”. Do not continue down the path of partisanship leading to inaction and polarization.
“Yes, I engage in politics”, the Pope replies, ‘because everyone must engage in politics. And what is politics? A way of life for the polis, for the city. What I do not do, nor should the Church do, is party politics. But the Gospel has a political dimension, which is to transform the social, even religious, mentality of people” so that it is directed to the common good.” Pope Francis I, (“The Shepherd. ” For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever.“
