Welcome to the 12 to the 7th power campaign page. This is concrete way of being a voice for the poor. The twelve members of the new super congressional committee have been named. They represent eleven different states and are affiliated with seven denominations. Click here to download the list of Commitee_Members.
Step 1: Contact each of the committee members using the information below. As alternative, you could use the toll free numbers: 1-866-456-3949 or 1-800-826-3688. Use the zip code for the local office to get through.
Step 2: Ask twelve others to do the same. By reaching seven levels, we can raise the voice of 35 million for the poor. A sample letter is below or can be downloaded with the poster – 12 to 7th Poster and Sample Letter.:
Dear Senator/Representative:
You have recently been named as a member of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. Your colleagues on the committee have diverse political views and ideas on how to address this issue of deficit reduction. Still, you are Americans. You belong to various Christian denominations.
“To each of you have been given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” – 1 Cor. 12:7
The common good is for all people regardless of their political affiliation, faith, color, place of birth, gender or sexual orientation. Most importantly, this includes the poor and vulnerable of our nation.
- Our nation is suffering. The nationwide unemployment rate is averaging 9% for the year. It stands at 16.5% nationally and 19.6% if you include those who are underemployed or have given up.
- Nationwide 50,162,000 (16.6%) fellow Americans are experiencing food insecurity.
- America has one of the largest wealth gaps among advanced economies according to the CIA World Factbook.
I am writing for my family, friends and those without a voice – the poor and the vulnerable.
‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or away from home or ill in prison and not attend to your needs?’ He will answer them: ‘I assure you, that as often as you neglected to do it to one of these least ones, you neglected to do it to me.’ Matthew 26:44-45.
Will you truly place the needs of the poor and vulnerable at the center of your work? I look forward to your response.
Step 3: Respond to the two question anonymous survey. I will be compiling the information and reporting back on a weekly basis on this website. We want you to know you are not alone in your witness for the poor.
